Bob Shelden Field

The Cubs have called Bob Shelden Field home for all but one season since the dedication of the field in October 1968. During the summer of 2020 while the entire complex was undergoing renovations to bring it to the current version, the Cubs were fortunate to have access to nearby Langland Field in Aurora.

The primary entrance to Bob Shelden Field is off Medary Avenue South, 621 Medary Avenue South to be specific, however, the official field address is 530A Elm Avenue - an extension of Brookings High School. The ballpark is owned and maintained by the City of Brookings and the Brookings Parks & Recreation Department.

The field is dedicated to Bob Shelden, a multi-sport Brookings and South Dakota State College athlete who, on April 23, 1962, at the age of 21, lost his battle to Hodgkin's disease. Shelden played basketball, football, and baseball, as well as participated in track. He earned All-State honors in both basketball and football, and was recruited by major universities such as Minnesota, Colorado, Arizona, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.

Shelden's ties to Brookings Baseball include his time with the Cubs. He also was employed by the Brookings Parks Department and maintained the field bearing his name.

In April 2021, a $3.2 million renovation to the complex was completed. This renovation included a turf infield, new grandstand and seating, field-level dugouts, and new drainage.

Additionally, LED lighting was installed and a large berm was built in right field.
